You choose a provider based on trust. You are paying a provider to give you the best possible advice. Your physician is a dominant party in the doctor-patient relationship by virtue of his or her training and level of medical knowledge. As they say: if you do not trust your physician, you better not go to him. All said, a savvy patient could definitely complement the performance of a good physician.
